12 Battersea Park facts found by Sam

1.There was a tavern called The Red House in Battersea Fields which was known for heavy drinking etc and it was decided that a park should be created to regulate behaviour and provide a space and beauty for general life e.g. exercise, pleasure


2. Thomas Cubitt envisaged the development of the park and the plans were drawn up by John Pennethorne


3. John Gibson was the first park superintendent and he helped to design and build certain features such as the subtropical garden


4. There was a suggestion made that the waterfall section was designed to screen the view of Clapham Junction Station


5. The Pump House was built in 1861 to house an engine and pump which supplied water from a well to the cascades and hence to the lake


6. 1980 – First Hong Kong in London festival


7. In 2003 the Zoo might have closed


8. There is an Easter parade every Easter Sunday


9. Denis Cousins – born in Battersea, first job was a gardener in the park and then became in charge of the park


10. There was also an Anglo-Japanese festival


11. The Pump House whilst neglected and derelict was known as the haunted house


12. The funfair was demolished in 1951 to make way for magic world in 1974

Exciting Marketing Ideas

On Monday 7th of March a group of Roehampton students got together to discuss different ways we could market the People Show 122: The Pump House Project. A wide range of potential ideas were looked at to capture the public's attention. Some exciting and engaging ideas were developed, which we are all looking forward to put into action.
